Counts for Mail Folders

Under an older version of Outlook it would automatically count how many
messages I had in my various folders (In Box, Deleted, Sent, etc.). With
Outlook 2003 is there a way I can have it count. All I could find in the
threads is how to set it up to count Unread Mail. For example, I used to be
able to highlight a message in my In Box and it would read 12 of 25 or
whatever. Help is appreciated. Thanks.

There are two ways. First, the Status bar (down on the bottom of the Outlook
window) should always list the number of items in the folder. If you don't
see the status bar, select View, Status bar.

You can also have Outlook count the total number of items in the folder and
display that number in parentheses next to the folder name. By default, the
number in parentheses is in blue and represents the total number of unread
items in the folder. To switch it to count the total number of read and
unread items, right click the folder name and choose Properties. About
halfway down the General tab is a selection. You can choose either Show
number of unread items (which should have the radio button selected by
default) or Show total number of items. If you choose Show Total Number of
Items, the number will change to be displayed in Green.

This is helpful, but can you tell me if it is possible to globally set all
folders to show the folder count? I have hundreds of folders, and changing
them one at a time will take many hours.

Unfortunatley, this doesn't seem to work for folders in .pst files. Total
number (or total unread) is not displayed in parenthases after the folder
whatever option is selected on the general tab.

Is this a "bug" or is there some other option which will activate this?

It does work with pst files... if it's not working for you, something else
is wrong. you should see either the unread count in blue parentheses (6)
or green brackets [22] behind the folder names. If you mean at the bottom of
the window, you need to show the status bar.
