could not start the firewall service

You can try this:

Click on start and go to run.
Type in services.msc and press ok.

Find Windows Firewall/Internet Connection sharing and double click it.

Go to the Logon tab.
Make sure Local System Account is chosen.

Also, make sure the profile is not disabled at the bottom of this screen.
 
Hi All,

I am running WinXP PRo SP2 and receive following error:

Could not start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing service on
Local Computer.
Error 0x80004015: The class is configured to run as a security id different
from caller

What is causing this, and how do I go about fixing it?

I am experiencing the exact same issue on 3 out of 4 of our test
workstations. I double checked the settings that the above poster said to
check and they were set correctly.
