corrupted XP user ID's

While attempting to resolve an issue with signing into MSN and staying there,
the MSN support person said that my XP user ID's were corrupted causing the
MSN to not work. This was discovered by setting up a new user account on XP,
installing and signing in. MSN and my VPN are the only areas where I seem to
have an adverse issue. Short of moving my "account" info to the new
"account", is there an easy way to fix this?
Would a Vista "upgrade" fix this without a loss of info?
