Corrupted Windows Files

For the past week ive been getting error messages when installing programs
that say "CRC Error the setup's files do not match those of the sources .cab
files." At first i thought it was a windows compression codec corruption. So
I reinstalled windows and now, I was getting registry errors before I even
setup the computer! i was finally able to log on after 3 or 4 restarts. Now I
thought my hard drive had bad sectors. I have a Western Digital HDD (M/N
WD2500JS). It was still under warrenty until 2008, so I RMA'd it. Got the new
one in, installed Windows and guess what....same problem. Im lost.

Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Reports in the System
and Application logs for the last boot and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.

(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Hope this helps.

In Zach had this to say:

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

Where did these files come from? They, the files, are likely corrupt.
Redownload them if applicable or go back to the source if they were
downloaded prior and archived to another drive. In other words, the CRC
corruption can (and usually does) occur during transfer. Sometimes it's a
network transfer and sometimes it happens when you burn and other times (and
the ones I hate the most) it will happen when you simply move it from one
drive to another. Annoying as all get out but there's not a whole lot you
can do about it accept to replace the file.
