Corrupted user profile

Hi

Following battery failure, a user profile is now
corrupted.
That is, after logging in, using the username and
password, the profile is pretty much empty. Instead, the
content seems to be of a TEMP profile. This means that
the Desktop is empty, and installed applications now
require re-installation.
On the other hand, using Windows Explore, all the
information, dektop files, etc. are correctly located in
the correct folder, along with all the common user
folders (favorites, local settings, my documents etc.).

I thought using 'System Restore' but am not sure.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

The system has apparently lost track of the account information, but
your profile folder is intact. Definitely try System Restore as this is
the easiest way to recover. If that doesn't work, do what Roger suggests
and create a new account with a different name than the old account.
Logon to that account and logoff so that the profile folder is created.
Then logon to Administrator and copy the old profile over the new one
and you should be back in business.
