Corrupted image after EWF commit was interrupted

Dear all,

I am having trouble with the EWF RAM mode commit. When I commit the EWF
overlay and restarted the PC, and during the restart, the PC power was
cut and after power supply was resumed, the image was corrupted...

I remembered that some XPE forum personnel said that the restart must
be a graceful one... Is there a way so that I can roll back to the last
known good working version of the image? The PC will be put in remote
site and this is a major concern for us if power is cut off during PC
restart...

Thank you.

Hi Godzilla. This situation is unfortunately one that can be very difficult
to control or recover from. If power is cut during any critical operation
(such as during the boot process, or ESPECIALLY while an EWF overlay is
being committed to the hard drive), there is basically no telling what will
happen to the image on the drive. I wrote a blog article last year that
covered a similar topic in more detail:
http://blogs.msdn.com/embedded/archive/2005/06/15/429225.aspx - while that
article was written to address disk overlays, committing a RAM overlay in
the same conditions can have the same results.

Hope this helps!

Thanks matt, will look into it...

Was doing some EWF commit to the C:\ after re-image and the reboot
process haulted... I pressed the restart button to restart and
fortunately the image is still ok after commit and reboot...

these findinds are a concern if we did roll out these remote units and
hope MS peers find a solution for it...
