Corrupted files message in excel

I am getting the messages: "files maybe corrupted or located on a server
that is not responding, or read-only" or "excel cannot access file, the file
maybe read-only or encrypted." This started to happen Monday at lunch, up
to that point I have had no trouble.Ran office diagnostic repeatedly with no
luck finding the problem.I am on a HP laptop running Vista Home Premium with
the SP1 installed, and using Office Plus 2007. I can restore the system back
to 10-13 and excel works fine.I also have a portable hard drive as backup and
can open the excel files on any other computer. I am trying to go one by one
on the updates that were issued 10-14 trying to fiqure out if this has
something to do with the problem and still cannot get the excel files to
open. Since I use excel files extensivily at work this has become a major
problem. I have also run into an additional problem with word not opening
files either. All the other modules run fine.

FWIW, I had a similar problem opening XLSM workbooks that were saved
programmatically, because I had the syntax wrong in the save code. I don't
know if it's related, but thought I'd mention it, just in case.
