Information about Corrupted Drive:
-Second harddrive(nonwindow)
-160GB Western Digital
-NTFS file system
-Just had it for about a month
-Used to store project files and personal data
Other Information:
-Windows XP Pro 2002
I got this message while I was using my computer:
"The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and
unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume D:."
When I did a diskscan like they suggested, I was asked to
schedule a scan before the next boot up. So I scheduled a
scan and restart my computer(I also scheduled for it to
scan my C: drive also, while I was at it). Upon
restarting, it scanned my C: drive but not my D: drive.
When loaded up, I went into My Computer and click on D:,
the description for it is as follow: Local Disk. It did
not tell me the Capacity, free space, file sytem or any of
that junk. So I ran Computer Management and then click on
Disk Management. The stats for D: drive there was: Healty
(Active), but under File System it's blank. My File System
somehow changed from NTFS to RAW after I restart. I tried
to do another diskscan, this time in dos, but I got the
following error message: "The type of file system is RAW.
CHKDSK is not avialble for RAW Drives." Then I try to do
an extended diagnostic test with the program bundle with
my harddrive. It returned no error. I don't know what to
do now, and I certainly don't want to format my drive. Is
there anyway I can restore the NTFS file system and still
have files on the drive intact?
