Corrupted color common dialog boxes

The ChooseColor common dialog (comdlg32.dll) that is used by many graphics
applications including MSPaint won't allow me to enter 3-digit (0-255) values
for RGB or HSL and the text boxes for these values are no longer sized to
display 3 digits. These fields will hold 3-digit values using the scroll
mechanisms, but you can only type 2 digits. My guess is that it would be a
video problem, but I have only one set of drivers available to me for this
notebook pc. I'm running XP Home Edition with SP2 applied.

Its not video drivers, more likely the font setting. Is there any default
font setting in the registry? I can't find one.
