Corrupt Word Table Causes System Problems?

Our local office "tech" says that I'm having problems with using IE to
access and open internet sites, opening other programs on my desktop and
generally having a bad day because I have a corrupted table in a custom
template I created and use in Word 2003. Should I believe him?
