Corrupted Attachments

I am at my wits end. I have a friend who sends and receives word docs as
attachments. Some of the emails and some attachments get corrupted (both
directions). I switched user from Outlook Express to Outlook 2000. The same
problem occurs. I had user send emails as Plain Text and got the same result.
I had the ISP who manages the POP3 account delete and rebuild the mailbox. It
still happens. We even sent attachments to the Tech at the ISP and they
corrupted. If we send the Word docs from another computer using a different
email account they send fine. No corruption. Is there a messaging kernel in
XP that could have corrupted and causes these intermittent problems? Any
thoughts would help. Thanks.

Using Outlook as a test might not be helpful if it's POP mail, since Outlook
relies on OE for POP/SMTP.

A better test would be to send via a completely different mail client, like
Thunderbird. Sending from another machine will also rule out the server
mailbox.
