Corrupt (?) user object in AD - cannot remove

A

Andy Clarke

There are some corrupt user objects in AD. Running a
search against certain names (mine happens to be one of
them) results in for example:
Clarke,Andrew <square control character> CNF:6a70d5f5-
23d1-9cc2-8e96aff678c2.

We can't do anything with this account. When e.g. trying
to delete get "Windows cannot delete object Clarke,Andrew
<square control character> CNF:6a70d5f5-23d1-9cc2-
8e96aff678c2 because: directory object not found"

This only comes up if searching when using an account
which is in a different domain to that which
the 'corrupt' account is in. Searching when in the domain
which this account is supposedly in does not list a
corrupted result (or any non-corrupt equivalent). I got
the name of the domain this acocunt is supposed to be in
by doing a rename, and it lists the fully qualified
domain name, followed by an error saying that the account
may have been deleted.

If we try to look at the properties of this account, MMC
crashes!

ADSI edit does not show this account up. Replmon shows no
replication problems at all.

Any advice of how to deal with this would be very welcome,

Andy
