Corrupt system32 problem

The following error message appears at start up."The following file is
missing or corrupt WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM.
When I boot from the cd rom the initial files are loaded but it hangs at the
point where it tells me that it is starting windows.Any ideas plz?

I am having this same problem. I come to the screen with
the commands, but I do not know which command to use.
Please let me know if you come up with the solution.

I actually reloaded xp again as I hadn't the patience to wait for the
solution above.
