If you downloaded the software then follow philo's advice except
download a new copy of the s/w if you can. It would be easier to
diagnose your problem if you told us what s/w you're having problems with.
In line with the above I have sometimes found it beneficial to copy to an
ISO format and then mount that image. The process takes a bit, small
learning curve, but isn't bad once you get used to it. I have had some
damaged CDs that just wouldn't work and the software that makes the ISO
images seemed to deal with the scratches a little better than just a copy to
the hard drive via conventional methods.
