Corrupt Registry and Undetctable Disk Mayhem! SOS!

Okay, heres my problem. Im sitting on my computer and it freezes so I
restart. Now, its dead. It has an error message that a file is missing or
corrupt. Well I dug through the Support on the XP site and found the sequence
I needed to go through for my particular problem. Here is the link:

to do this sequence, but when I get to step 2 of part one, It wont work. I
press 'r' at the welcome to setup menu, and it tells me that It cannot
procede because no hard disk is installed. Can anyone help me get past this
step?? ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED! Thanks.

Among various possibilities:
1/ your hard disk was failing; this would explain the freezes and
subsequent problems.
2/ Somehow, your bios got corrupted or you inadvertently disabled the hd
on the bios while setting it up to boot from your CD.

As a first step, I would open the bios and make sure the hd is normally
recognized and setup. Let us know.
