Danielle

I have setup XP Pro on a new computer on a network. I
added the first user account (not admin) and got the
error that the recycle bin is corrupt. So, I did what the
support says and made sure I had the latest updates,
which I do, including SP1, and I still had the problem.
So, I deleted the User account as well as their user
folder in Documents and Settings, restarted and then
added the account back. I logged in as the user and got
the same error, but only on the first try at recycling
something. So, I deleted the user and the folder again
and tried adding a new and different account. This one
works fine, no recycle bin error, but same test .txt doc
that I've been testing with. So, I tried adding the user
again and I still get the same recycle bin error. How do
I completely clear out a created user account so that
this error can be stopped? Or how do I fix the corrupted
recyle bin?

Hi Danielle,

Some info for you:

This seems to work for many: Make sure that something is in the Recycle Bin
(delete any file). With the Recycle Bin closed, right click and choose:
Empty Recycle Bin. When the confirm box appears, click ok. Reboot. Now the
Recycle Bin should work correctly.

If the above didn't help:

Files not being listed in the Recycle Bin seem to be related to a corrupt
info2 file. To correct the issue (Fat32):

Go to Start/Run and type in CMD:

Type CD \RECYCLED, and then press ENTER.
Type ATTRIB -r -s -h info2, and then press ENTER.
Type DEL INFO2, and then press ENTER.

NOTE: This deletes the damaged INFO2 file. Windows will recreate this file
as needed, automatically.

You can often restore files even if it is not being listed in the Recycle
Bin by searching (Start/Search) for the files by name, once found rename
them. If the files still cannot be recovered, follow the steps above, then
reboot. They should now be listed.
