Corrupt or missing Config.sys

On power up I recieve a message that my config.sys is
missing or corrupt and to use the repair console of the XP
CD. When I do this, after selecting the proper directory,
it churns for 30 seconds and then stops, with no other
activity and no repair. Can someone tell me how to
recover.

Greetings --

WinXP doesn't use CONFIG.SYS. The empty file is present simply to
provide some backwards compatibility with legacy applications. Are
you sure that's the name of the file mentioned in the error message?
