I have been in contact with Symantec Online Technical
Support concerning a problem I have with the Web Cleanup
feature of Norton SystemWorks.
The problem is that after identifying how many URL
History items, Cookie items, and Cached Files items have
been found, when I choose 'Cleanup Now' all the Cookies
items are cleared, all the Cached Files items are
cleared, but no matter how many URL History items have
been found, there are always four URL History items left
not cleared.
Symantec state that a corrupt Internet Explorer index
file is usually the causes of this problem. The solution
is to delete the Index.dat file which will be recreated
when Internet Explorer is relaunched.
Symantec give more information on troubleshooting the
issue in the document:

Symantec state that with Windows XP, because there is no
ability to start in DOS mode, the operating system
maintains the Index.dat file in an "open" state,
preventing its deletion. For this reason, they have
suggested that I contact Microsoft customer support for
assistance in removing the Index.dat file in Windows XP.
I am running Windows XP Home with two users: John -
which has the problem, and Patricia - which does not have
the problem.
Any help and advice would be much appreciated.
