Have just upgraded from Win 2000 to Win XP Pro and all
the Excel (but no other files) are corrupt. All manner
of retrieval programs tried but to no avail. Any advice.

Martin,

Oh no. Have you tried "Open and repair?" This is in the Open button in the
File - Open dialog of Excel 2002. DOn't know about XL2000. It's not in
XL97.

The spreadsheet program in www.openoffice.org is said to be able to read
damaged files too.

Have you been to the knowledge base, www.microsoft.com?

You should send some of the files to someone to see if they're really messed
up, or if your system is just routinely fubar.

Before you do anything too drastic, can you copy a few of those files to a
different pc to see if that version of windows & excel can read them?
