corrupt downloads

I recently uninstalled my wireless ethernet card and removed the drivers and
software. when I connect through my wired connection most downloads above a
couple of MB are corrupted and most images viewed in IE6 above 150kb the
first 2/3 are okay and the last 1/3 is corrupted with strange colors and
such. I have run Norton antivirus and it doesn't find any errors. I have
also run Adaware and removed the critical items.

Try to run a chkdsk.exe from the Run command or this command sfc /scannow
to repair any corrupt/Damaged system core files/folders may resulted from the
uninstallation of the wireless.

I ran it but it said something about F parameter not defined, scanning in
Read only mode. Does this matter, Will it work like this or do I have to
change something in the way I invoke it?

I ran the chkdsk /f and it didn't tell me it did anything. I have scanned
this morning with a fully updated Norton antivirus. I have also rescanned
with ad aware and didn't find anything new.

when I ran the sfc /scannow it returned that

"Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the
DLL cache. Please insert your copy of Window XP Professional Service Pack 2
CD now."

This is a little strange because I have Window XP Home Edition SP 2 and it
is an OEM product so I don't think I have the CD for it.

Nass,

Okay I disabled all the addons. there were only 3 that weren't Microsoft
and they were Norton and Adobe Reader ones.

I uninstalled Norton antivirus and reinstalled it. no difference the
downloads are still coming down corrupted.

Last I managed to find my Windows XP Home CD and ran the sfc /scannow
command. It worked through and didn't find anything. When I tried to
download something it was still corrupted.

what can I try next?

That didn't work either. Would re-installing Windows fix the problem?
last resort I know but I am out of ideas as well.

Hi Geo,
Again if you have a noisy line that can contribute to the corruption of the
download.
The same with the routing of your connection over the internet, try to clear
your caches again and Reboot your computer and wait for hours to see if the
ISP server will clear, because if your ISP provider server still have the
History of your download will supply you with the corrupt one that if they
have any.
Read this article and you will see what your option I rather check the ISP
provider more than clean install:

nass,

I am pretty sure that isn't it. I have cleared my caches and retried and I
get the same result. Also other computers in the house do not have the same
problem, I am the only one experiencing it.

Hi Geo,
Yep it is time for a new clean install as the core system files been
corrupted and unrepairable, so back up your Valuable Data and do a clean
install.
Sorry if I haven't been much of help to your problem or providing you with
right procedure.
Good luck.
