Corrupt catalog

I just recently received a ~ appear on my desktop, someone
suggested that it may be relative to a corruption in the
Indexing service....can anyone shed some light?

The tilde (~) is a result of this patch:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/330994/default.asp
The file is created when certain changes are made to your address
book.
The files can be safely deleted.
A search of Google shows many having the same harmless but possibly
annoying issue.

My understanding is that Microsoft is aware of the issue.

This sounds like a nice facade(or wool over my eyes) if I
may say so myself..... "Certain changes to my address
book"? My system was patched over a month ago and I've
used OE many times and have not added a contact in
weeks....I suppose XP's RAW SOCKETS don't exist
either..tsk tsk tsk

Also, why does it also appear in my root dir not
Outlook's?(Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm)
