Correct way to open a Word file from DVD

I used search and read several posts on never ever saving Word directly to
DVD but to use Explorer to copy from the hard drive.

Is the same rule true for opening a Word file from a DVD?

to a CD vs DVD?

1. The number of files that will fit on the disk.
2. The type of optical drive available.
