This is not directly in Vuescan, but should work for you:

http://www.lunerouge.org/gnu/crl_e.htm

Sources are available, and it will do batch conversions. Also, something
in the back of my mind is telling me that theGimp will do this kind of
thing in batch mode, too.

Not in VueScan, but Photoshop and other image programs will let you do
this. It's just like setting up a macro. You turn on the record
button, do the operation on a single image, turn off the record and
give it a name.

Then in photoshop you run the batch mode and select the procedure.
I'd assume image programs for LINUX will do the same. I think
Photoshop is available for LINUX.

Have you tried VueScan's Output tab Description and Copyright fields?
They are visable with Options set to Standard or Advanced.

This option puts (just) a copyright note to the tiff or jpeg
meta-fields.

right that was the first thing I tried, thought maybe I was doing
something wrong. not running in batch mode but individual scans as each
must be individually cropped, but have a lot of em as I'm trying to get
some of my slide shows onto disk...

thanks

You could label the images with ppmlabel.

Or use this program (depends on ksh & the netpbm utilities, both easy to
get for Linux), which I wrote a decade ago to brand my images with copyrights:
ftp://ftp.armory.com/pub/scripts/brandimg
A description is at: ftp://ftp.armory.com/pub/scripts/help_pages/brandimg

I'm in the process of adding some of the brandimg capabilities to ppmlabel.

Sorry, I misunderstood your original question. Vuescan adds text only
to the header -- it will not place any visable text on your images.

maybe time to request consideration of a copyright visible text in future
versions of Vuescan... hint hint, Mr Hamrick.

Happy Holidays to all
