Depends "What" you're copying.
On the Internet, many things are not what they seem to be -- people, places,
software, and "text".
If the website is made as a PDF document, it may not copy very well. If
it's a GIF or JPEG, it may not copy at all. And if it's an Active Server
Page, all sorts of interesting combinations are possible.
If you COPY then go to Word and choose Edit>Paste Special>... You can see
what bits of what you copied Word can see on the clipboard. When you copy,
the thing you copy is inserted to the clipboard in a variety of different
formats. The pasting application (in this case, Word) then selects from the
clipboard the format it thinks will paste the best result.
Using Edit>Paste Special enables you to choose a different format, which
will give you different results. Generally, "Unformatted Text" is best for
pasting from websites: at least you will get all the text that way.

I want to copy text from websites onto a word document but when I highlight
the text and copy I am unable to to paste onto word as the Paste option does
not work. I have XP and a friend told me she couldn't do it either. Can you
