Copying photos to CD

Debbie

Hi. I hope someone can help me. I have been trying to
copy photos to a CD. Every time I go through the wizard
and it says it has copied the photos to the CD. When I
view the CD, however, it is blank. If I try to reuse the
same blank CD, I get a message saying that the CD may be
unusable. What am I doing wrong?? Many thanks!

The first thing to do is to check if your CD drive is enabled to record.
Open My Computer. Check under Devices with removable storages. Right click
on your CD drive listed there. Click on Properties. A window will open.
Click on the Recording tab. Check the box "Enable...." For the speed,
select 8X and see if this works. You can increase the speed later.

If the box is already on Enable.
Check if you have the correct CD driver to work with XP, particularly if you
upgraded to XP.
Go to the site of the CD drive manufacturer and check for the latest driver
(firmware) for your drive. Download the driver and install it. Reboot before
you try again.

You can also review the correct steps to copy photos to CDs using XP and see
if you are doing something wrong. Here are the steps.
1.. Insert a blank CD-R into your CD drive. Wait about 15-20 seconds for
XP to recognize that a CD-R has been inserted. A window will open, with a
variety of options in it. You don't need any of the options in this window
to copy to a CD-R. There is a Cancel button at the bottom of this window.
Click on it to close this window. If this window does not open, just go to
step 2.
2.. Click on My Computer and navigate to the folder where your pictures
are located. Open the folder so you can see the files you want to copy.
3.. You now need to select the files you want to copy. Do you want to copy
all the files in the folder? If so, hold the Ctrl key down and press the
letter A. This will select (highlight in blue) all the files in the folder.
If you want to select only some of the files, click on the first file you
want to select. Remove your finger from your mouse, hold the Ctrl key down
and click on the second file you want to select. Continue doing this until
all the files you want to copy are selected. Each time a file is selected it
will be highlighted in blue. If the files you want to select are listed in a
row, you can do it this way. Click on the first file, remove your finger
from the mouse. Hold the Shift key down and click on the last file you want.
All the files between the first and last file you clicked on will be
highlighted in blue.
4.. Once you have selected the files you want to copy, look at the menu on
the left of the selected files. The top menu should be "Picture Tasks". The
last item listed under "Picture Tasks" is "Copy to CD". Click on it. The
other way is to right click on one of the selected pictures. A menu will
open. Click on Send To. Click on your CD drive on the opening list.
5.. The copying process will start (a small window opening at the top of
your screen indicating the progress, wait until completed, also you may not
see this window if you are copying just a few files because the operation is
too fast) and you will get a message, right hand corner bottom of your
screen, "You have files waiting." Click on it.
6.. A window will open. It will show you the photo files you just selected
to copy. Look at the menu on the left and click on "Write these files to CD"
..
7.. A Wizard box will open. Just follow the directions on the screen to
complete the job.
8.. Once you have copied the photos to the CD you may want to copy more to
it in the future. Just insert it instead of inserting a blank CD and follow
the same directions. Just make sure you have enough space on it to add more
photo files. A CD will hold 700 MB but with photo files, don't try to fill
it. Limit to about 200 - 300 photo files per CD. Otherwise it can take a
long time to open this CD to view the files, but if you don't mind the time
you can fill it.

Thank you Yves for your thorough response. I went
through the process you described, but my problem
persists. I did check to be sure the CD drive
is "Enabled", & followed your step by step instructions.
I used your method of identifying all the files in a
folder to copy (Control A). Before I had simply been
highlighting the folder, not each photo within the
folder. My files are only 14MB total, so space isn't the
problem. I'd be happy to hear any other ideas you might
have. My daughter has successfully written music to CDs
so I know that the drive works. Thanks again for your
assistance!

The drive is working to copy music to CD. This is great. However, when your
daughter copies music to CDs, how does she do it? Does she uses some
software like Roxio Easy CD creator? If she does, this may be the source of
the problem. It is known that this software will interfere with XP to copy
to CD if the version of Roxio is not updated to work with XP. If Roxio Easy
CD creator is installed on your computer, start it and then click on Help
and About Roxio Easy CD Creator to see the version you have. If the version
is less than 5.3, you need to go to www.roxio.com and then update the
version to the latest version to work with XP.

Hi Debbie I have found the same problem. I can save
text to a CD but I cannot save pictures. Please if you
get an answer (or if I do) can we tell one another about
it. This is very frustrating. Maggie e mail me at
