Copying Outook Express Contents to MS Mail in Vista

Hi,

I'm setting up a new PC with Vista and MS Mail. The old PC was XP with
Outlook Express. Are there any special considerations in moving everything
over from OE to MS Mail? Or is it the same as it would be when copying to OE
on a different PC? I'm concerned with messages/folders, contacts, and rules.

Thank you in advance for your input.

Regards,

If you mean Windows Mail, see here:

Bring along the .wab file if you want your old contacts. After you copy
the files to a directory on the hard drive of your new computer, but
before you tell Windows Mail to import them, make sure the copies are
read-write instead of readonly.

I'm not sure if you can do this to your old message rules.

Hi Robert,

Yes, I did mean Windows Mail (sorry).

I neglected to mention that the old drive is not bootable, so I don't have
the luxery of opening the old OE to formally export. I know I can just
manually copy the associated files from the directories to the new
installation when going from OE to OE on different PCs. I was just wondering
if I could do the same thing when going to Windows Mail, or if that would be
a problem.

Also, if anyone else knows if I can copy rules, that would be appreciated.
Thanks again.

Windows Mail stores its messages in a different format, so just
copying the files over won't work. You may be able to import
enough files into Windows Mail, though, without telling Outlook
Express to export them.
