Copying Files

We have setup a new storage server running Win 2K3 and need to copy all of our data from our Win2K file server to this new server.
what would be the best way to accomplish this while keeping the file permissions and shares (if possible)?

Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you want to copy data from Windows 2000 file server to
Windows 2003 file server. You want to retain the file permission and shares
on the new server.

Please find the tools that can be used for the migration and more details
about them.

Use Robocopy.exe to maintain identical copies of a folder tree in multiple
locations.

To copy folders with NTFS permissions, we can use a Windows 2000 Resource
Kit tool called robocopy.exe.

Using the /SEC switch, both the folder structures and the NTFS permissions
are fully copied.

Addition Information:

SubInACL is a command-line tool that enables administrators to obtain
security information about files, registry keys, and services, and transfer
this information from user to user, from local or global group to group,
and from domain to domain.

I hope the above information helps. If there is anything unclear, please
feel free to let me know. Thank you and have a nice day!
