When using Roxio under Window XP Home to copy a folder of .jpg files from
disc to CD a new file named Thumbs.db appears on the CD that isn't on the
hard drive. Can anyone tell me what the file does?

Thanks,
Graham.

Thumbs.db IS in folder/s on hd, just that they're flagged "hidden."

regards, Richard

I believe Windows Explorer uses this file to store information about how the
folder is to be presented (Thumb nails, small icons, details etc)

I believe you believe wrong. Take a look at this site for full details on the
mystery of, thumbs.db.

It is where the generated Thumbnails get cached when you look at a
folder in Thumbnail view - one for each folder, It is a hidden file, so
you do not normally see it, and this attribute is being turned off on
the CD

It is the THUMBNAIL info cache. Turn OFF thumbnail caching in Tools,
Folder Options, View and the file will not be created or used.
