Copying Documents and Settings

I have 2 hdds. One has an unbootable windows xp os. This hdd has the files
I want. The other hdd has a new xp os installed. I am trying to copy the
documents and settings from my old (unbootable hdd) to my new hdd. However,
I am always denied access to my old drive. Even when I log on as the admin
on my new os and try to copy the old documents and settings to my new hdd, I
am denied access to my old files. I have tried the file settings and
transfer wizard, windows recovery console, logging on as administrator on my
new os, and I have even tried copying the files by using a KNOPPIX os. None
of this has worked. Does aynone know how I can gain access and copy these
files from my old hdd to my new hdd?

Take ownership of that folder and then you can access / backup the contents.
