When I copy a file from excel to word, is there a way to remove the lines in word?

That depends on how you're doing the insertion. More information please, on
how the Excel file is inserted into Word.

Cheers

Abell,

Assuming you did a simple paste, the data from Excel is placed in a Word
table and the lines are table gridlines. To turn off their display, click
Hide Gridlines on the Table menu.

Sometimes the tables have borders as well; these can be removed with
Ctrl+Alt+U.
