Copying and pasting a document with form fields

I am creating a document for users with limited experience and it contains
form fields. The user must then move the content of this document into
another program. I need to know if there is a way to have them complete the
document and copy it for pasting in the other program without them having to
unlock the document. We are afraid they will lose or alter the original
document if they have to unlock it to copy. We do not want to remove the
form fields as they are there to save the user time and assure that they get
all necessary content covered, otherwise they would simply enter directly
into the program where the information will end up. I am using Word 2003.
They will be using this form document repeatedly with new information each
time.

I am not familiar with macros, can someone please explain which ones to use
and how they may be helpful?
