Copying a DVD

Joel

I need to copy a DVD (legal!). I am looking for software
for this. Help says I use the Roxio CD creator. I can't
find it on my XP setup. I don't think I deleted it. Where
could it be? Can I get it? Should I use something else?

Hello,

Your installation or Recovery disk will no doubt have it....exactly how you
would restore it to your system would be a guess. I have seen some recovery
disks that give you that kind of option. My oldest sons recovery disks give
no options...its a restore all or nothing situation. On the assumption you
bought it as a package I would suggest you get in touch with your supplier.

Will,
Some recovery discs do actually come with all the software supplied in a
bunch of several discs, lablled recovery disc 1... 2... 3 etc.
The only way I have found to use these is a complete recovery of all the
info, so it would be reformat and then total re-install. What is on the
discs would depend on what was exactly shipped with the pc when new.

Hi Graham

Yes, on separate CDs, but not on the XP CD as JK, logically, was referring
to Joel's posting. With an OEM disk the only way is a 'clean' install, but
also with a lot of 'Recovery' disks the only way is a 'clean' install as
well.

Hope you had a good time on Wednesday!!??

Will,
Of all the times I've had to use recovery discs it's always been a total
clean install. I agree the XP disc will only contain XP, and if this was
supplied then roxio would have been supplied on a seperate disc.

Had a great time on Wednesday thanks, made us most welcome and met a lot of
very nice people!!!!

John,

I think the confusion lies in the difference between an XP disc and computer
recovery discs.

As we all know,

XP comes on one disc, supplied by MS.
Computer recovery discs are not supplied by MS but by the pc manufacturer
and contain Xp and a mixture of programmes drivers etc, specific to that
pc..

In which case the OP needs to either dig out recovery discs or his copy of
Roxio, which if it came already installed on his pc, he should have.

Hello Mr. Denny.

Thank you for demonstrating yet again what kind of person you actually are.
The original poster was talking about how he could restore a program...it
matters not one jot what the name of that program is.

I gave general advice to him

You then try and rubbish that advice by saying that what I said is not
possible.

You are then offered the means to verify what I say is true

You come up with a stupid idiotic remark about including the original
message

You then try and further rubbish the remarks made and the proof offered by
worrying about the irrelevant program. What in gods name are you ranting on
about...custom dict ?

Please keep your quality of replies at their current level. With any luck
we will soon see the end of you.

STOP! Everything is going round in pointless circles here!

OK, original poster, Joel:
Do you have any DVD burning software that works? If not, download a trial,
or use on of these freeware ones (no spyware, adware on anything else, this
posting from alt.comp.freeware)

--------------------------------
burnatonce http://www.burnatonce.com/ Version 0.99b October 28, 2003
CDBurnerXP Pro http://www.cdburnerxp.se/ Version 2.2.1 March 02, 2004
Easy Burning http://www.paehl.de/cdr/index.php Version 1.65 March 07
20047
Deep Burner http://www.deepburner.com/ Version 1.1.0.114 March 04,
2004
All four of these CD burners will work on Windows 98/Me/2000/XP.
They all have these same features in common:
They are all freeware with no spyware or nags. Don't need to register.
Burn Data CDs, DVDs and Audio CDs. Burn CDs from ISO images. Erase CDs.
Burn single or multi session CDs.
--------------------------------
Now download this tiny, free and indespensable software:
http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html
Rip the cd, keeping only the languages you need, and use one of the above
apps to burn the resulting VIDEO_TS folder.
Don't ask how, here. It's beyond the scope of the forum, but all you need is
on the site.

The idea of installing the entire OS simply because one app doesn't work
seems a bit OTT!

For once, I agree with you...but if mr denny thinks he is going to continue
in this manner, he can put himself on notice that I will complain and
complain and complain again until someone in Microsoft deals with him.

His replies, well what can I say, He will not take my word for it here that
the files exist, but he offers to believe me if I send him a list.

What kind of person is this MVP? I think we are going to find out soon.
