I have a network that I will be promoting to a domain. There are several XP
Pro workstations. I know when I join them XP will create a different profile
for the user.

What is the best method to preserve as much as possible of the old profile?
Best method to copy it to the new one. Will I have to have the Office Cd
ready?

Thanks,

Mike

My recollection (and you should test this) is that the first time the
user of the XP machine logs into the domain the domain, it will copy
the existing profile across ... hence by default there is no change.
But test that.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

As soon as you log those people onto the domain using their new domain accounts your going to create new profiles, there are a few folders you can just copy over and should make things look the same. Office should still be usable to all users on the domain as well, that shouldnt change, unless you had some custom settings like macro's and such then youll have to possibly reload those, depending on how they were set up.

Wrong!!!

ok. i just know that when we did it, we didn't lose any "profile"
stuff. Happy to be corrected.
