I have seen this in upgrades; ie NT4 -> 2000

The best way to fix this is to take ownership of the directories that
exhibit this behavior.

Thumbs.db is a little turd file stuck in directories by Windows XP (and
maybe 2k as well?) that caches a thumbnail view of the icon to use for each
file (for folders with lots of images, this speeds the display of icons if
you're using the "Thumbnails" view). Try changing your view to "List" or
"Details" and then copying the files. Or you could just delete the thumbs.db
file - Windows will just create it again.

(BTW, that thumbs.db file is really annoying when mucking with unix
filesystems via samba. I wish Microsoft would just get rid of it - I will
tell the OS when to make files, thank you very much)
