When trying to save a picture from a web page i have to right click on it
then choose 'save as'.
Is there a simple freeware program / shell / add-on which will allow me to
just hold down my left mouse key on the picture for more than, say 1 second,
then be prompted with 'save to location ?'

Cheers

You try a program called SavePicNoAsk 1.1 freeware version at my swedish
homepage; on the page, go Internet > SavePicNoAsk 1.1 > här.
