I recently purchased a new tower after my last one got too old. It
runs XP and I installed Microsoft 2003.

On my old pc i used to be able to open an IE window, copy an email
address from a website and then open a new message email in my outlook
2003 and paste that email address into the 'To' line.

Now I can't do that unless the new email message is opened first, then
I copy the email address then I paste it into the email. Why is this?

Because it's trying to paste in HTML format, and an email address should be
text only.

Use Edit>Paste Special>Plain Text.
