copy paste failure

My laptop has developed a habit of failing to copy and paste.
No error, no beep, just nothing happens when I paste.
Happens across all apps, even notepad.
Windows XP SP2. Office 2002.
Happens once a day. Reboot fixes.

Any ideas appreciated.

Have you tried to do a system restore to a date prior when it started
behaving like that?

I'm part of the IT Support team for around 5000 desktops, if I see a hiccup I
try to resolve it rather than just restore or rebuild in case I'm the first
one to come across it.
Hopefully in this case its just me, but I thought I'd ask if anyone else had
seen it.

Have you tried copy/paste whilst logged on to another PC?
Can you log onto your PC with a different account and replicate the problem?

I've seen this error before, i'm unsure of the intricacies behind the fix
but I repaired the problem with copy/paste by backing up elements of my
profile (favs, outlook NK2 files and desktop items) and creating a new
windows profile. I logged on and it fixed the apparent issue with copy/paste.

A system restore would not hurt if you are dubious about deleting your
windows profile.

If this happens only in Office 2002, try an Office NG.

Copy/Paste Problems? Click Start, Run, and enter these lines:

regsvr32 ole32.dll (Press Enter key)
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll (Press Enter key)

Also try Kelly's tweak (you'll find instructions at the top of the page).

Line 233 - Enable Drag and Drop

Actually a Logoff/logon fixes it. I haven't determined what causes it,
but it seems to happen to some users more frequently than others. Some
once a month, others a couple times a year, while others never. And it
doesn't seem related to "amount" of use, it MAY be what is being copied,
but that isn't always "known".
