N
Not Me
I have been computing in one form or another since 1969.
When I started computing, there were no video displays, no hard drives, not
even the floppy disk was available.
I have seen a world of change, most of it for the better.
You can bicker until the cows come home.
My take on the whole argument is as follows:
Every OS has it's place.
If Vista works for you, use it.
If you like XP, use it.
If it's Linux ya want, great, enjoy.
I don't advocate that everyone run out and replace their Windows machines
with Linux.
I don't particularly like Vista, though I can make it function. I just plain
don't LIKE it!
I took 35 old P3 and P4 machines and converted them to Linux.
It is more secure than the W98/ME/NT that it replaced, runs faster and does
everything required.
I haven't had any driver issues, but the hardware is pretty standard and old
enough to have driver bugs worked out.
These machines are used for internet, email, light word/spreadsheet
processing and uses terminal emulation to access our accounting software on
an AS800.
I couldn't justify upgrading or replacing the machines to run XP or Vista,
but they work great for their purpose.
I wouldn't use any of them as my personal machine, but for business they are
great.
We also have 150 other machines using XP and NO plans to upgrade or migrate
to Vista.
If MS can't do better, those machines will end up following the P3s to
another OS.
There is a learning curve to Linux, but it isn't as bad as some say...nor as
good as others claim.
You don't have to be a genuis or a moron to use either...contrary to what
some here seem to think!
Choosing an OS is much like choosing a religion, it has to be comfortable
for YOU!
And, you can't always convert others...
