Copy Contacts subfolders?

B

Bob Newman

Outlook 2000. I have 4 subfolders to my contact list on my desktop computer
and wish to copy them (via CD or thumbdrive) to my laptop as subfolders of
it's contact list. How would I do this?

Thanks in advance... Bob

Create a new pst-file by File-> New-> Personal Data File... and copy your
contact folder to that pst-file. Close Outlook and copy the pst-file to your
thumbdrive and then copy it to your laptop. On your laptop use File-> Open->
Personal Data File... to open the pst-file again.

Doing it that way will only save the desired folders? & when I open on the
second computer it will not disturb my current contact folder but only add
the new as subfolders?

Thanks... Bob

It will save whatever folders you put in the PST you create.

It will not add them to anything. It will give you access to them in a
separate "Personal Folders" file and let you copy them to whatever folder
you want them in.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

This is on the original Outlook, correct? Now that you have an empty
Personal Folders file, you can copy to it the items you wish to move to the
other Outlook. After you've copied the items, right-click this Personal
Folders tree and choose Close. Then stop Outlook. Copy the PST to the
other machine's hard drive, make sure the file is not read-only, and then in
Outlook on that machine click File>Open>Personal Folders File. You'll now
be able to move the data from the transferred PST to the main folders on
that machine.

Okay, I did that and it added the new folders, great! One last question,
the calendar that I brought over, I want to merge with the existing calendar
rather than keep it as a separate folder. If you can tell me this I promise
not to bug you guys for a while.

Thanks in advance... Bob

Use the same method as for the Contacts.
To copy the items from the second calendar to the existing one place your
Calendar in a table view like By Category. You can now easily copy the
individual items

Drag the items you want to move from one calendar to the other.
