Copy - Burn?

I d/l 5728 this AM and burn it to a DVD in Vista. As it is ''burning'' it
shows the progress of ''copying'' files. When I try to install 5728 -
nothing.
I boot to XP Home and d/l 5728. I Have Roxio Creator 7, w/drag to disc, and
when I drag 5728 to DVD it starts copying it. This DVD will not install 5728
either.

With 5384 and 5600 when I did drag to disk a dialogue box would come up
asking me if I would like to use the proper function to burn the image file
to a DVD. I did, and both worked fine.

Is there a difference between ''burning'' and "copying" a file?

Has anybody else had a problem w/5728 iso, I had 2 d/ls = 2 problems

Use the "burn image to disc" function of your software. Do not create a
data disc. The downloaded file is an image of a physical disc and all you
need to do is restore the image to physical media.

That is what I had done, just as I did with three previous Beta versions.
I downloaded a fourth time and it burned to the DVD just fine - who knows -
thanks for the reply.

I have Nero 7 Burning Rom and the easiest way to do this is to double click
on the downloaded ISO and Nero will launch the DVD Image burning process
automatically so you don't have to choose between the DVD ROM ISO, Boot, UDF,
UDF/ISO burn processes, the correct choice is done for you by Nero.

So if you have Nero try that, if not, well you can always download a 30-day
trial version and do it.

Rob,
Thanks for the reply. Roxio has worked fine until today. If finally did what
it was supposed to after the 4th download. I think the problem was the files
I downloaded got corrupted at some point - probably some stupid move on my
part.

BCaht:

It makes no sense to burn without checking the MD5 or SHA1 hash. I got a
bad download hash today for the first time, but it was correct for my
second downlaod, and the burn/install went OK.

David,

Took me 4 tries to get a good one. I am/was not aware of checking the d/l
for the MD5 or SHA1 hash.
I don't even know what they are - another lesson to learn
Thanks

The hashes are displayed on the page where you went to get the download.
For 5728 x86 they are

MD5 hash: 79cbef523e8afa557a25688349dc8dac
SHA1 hash: d58852a8f68a6d8f5b634edd50c1a8b3908ede09

I use the free HashCalc program from SlavaSoft. I run it on XP (don't
know if it runs on Vista, but it probably does).

David,
I see those on the page - never paid any attention to them and have no idea
what they mean.
I added them to my list of things to learn after I get a few problems in
5728 fixed.
Thanks again,
Bill
