Copy and paste to a Shared folder

We recently attached a second Win XP Home machine via wireless to an
existing Win XP Home machine. The primary user of the new machine had an
account on the existing machine and a number of files in his "My Documents".
He asked us how he could get all those files to the new machine and we
replied, easy, we will paste them into the Shared folders and from the
Shared folders onto the new machine. When we attempted this, however, we
got an "Access denied" message. What would explain the inability of a user
to copy his own files to the Shared folders? By the way, we do this very
often on our own machines and network. Que pasa?
TIA,
Al

Maybe this helps: "How to Take Ownership of a File or Folder in
Windows XP" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308421).
