Copy and Paste object

Hi,
Using office 2003 pro. I used to be able to copy a word file or excel
file and paste to a word document as an object. Now however these documents
are merged to the target document.

Any settings in word that i may have changed to cause this?
 
Use Edit>Paste Special to specify the format of the data you are
pasting.
