copied CDs and DVDs wont read in Sony Laptop running XP

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-FXA36 laptop. I have no problem running
original CDs or original DVDs on it. If a CD has been written with
DISKCOPY or if something is copied to a DVD or if I create a DVD from
my desktop computer (desktop is a brand new HP with DVD RW
capabilities) it will show up on my Vaio laptop as a blank CD or DVD.
The explorer will read it as empty. If I take the same DVD and put it
into a standard DVD player, it will work with no problems. Likewise,
if I write files onto a CD-R using cut and paste or Roxio CD creator
they will work fine on my laptop. The problem mainly focuses around
CDs that have been diskcopied (like when you make a back up of a game
or software app) or home-burned DVDs. I have experienced problems with
one or two brand new original CD programs, but that is fairly rare.

I would really like to be able to view my home-burned DVDs on my
laptop. They work on my regular DVD player and my desktop, but I
travel a lot and would like the flexibility to use the laptop to watch
those movies. Also, I have some software that I only have back ups of
due to damage to the original CD.

I hate to even suggest it, knowing how awful Sony Vaio support is, but have
you checked their website or tried calling them?

It almost sounds like this one on Sony Support, Sorry cannot post a URL as
Sony does not display the whole URL, but its under Sony Support for your
Unit.
But you can start here and get to the page.

CD-R recording option is disabled by SonicStageT and is not re-enabled.

As far as Lanwench said, "calling them" good luck, I also have an olderr
Vaio, nice laptop, no support...
