Coolscan IV ED don't work

I have bought it days ago. My problem is that when I put the negative and
Preview tell me that can't focus automaticly. If I accept the message appear
another one that tell me the scanner in not switch on.
The scanner is working with nikon scan 4 and I have installed all the
actualizations and patches.
 
Sounds like a hardware problem. You might download the demo version of
VueScan and see if it works any better. My feeling is that you'll end
up returning the scanner.
 
What operating system?

What interface?

If you are using the Windows XP Operating System, and the scanner has an
SCSI interface, have you installed the Adaptec "ASPI" software?

Please post a copy the *exact* text of the error messages.
