cooling fan replacement on 9800 pro

Has anyone changed the fan on this card, question is, what fan make and
model did you use.

I used an old ball-bearing Pentium fan. It's a lot more effective than the
small, stock fan.

i use a big amd thunderbird stock cooler.
almost as big as the hs.

I second that. I think I paid like, 12 bucks (US) for mine.

Just a note, the original heat sink was semi-loose on the GPU and the
transfer compound was the consistency of old chewing gum. So, when you
get a new card,(which this was) I would check the HS/Fan *before*
installing it.

Yes, but if you've bought a new card, you'll invalidate the warranty
by removing the heatsink or fan. Better to check that the card works
Ok first!

Thirded, and if you're handy with a soldering iron, you can put a
series resistor in to drop the high fan speed a bit, to get it out of
the noisy zone.

If you are handy with a soldering iron, you should be voltage-modding the
SOB and pushing for high overclocks.

When my AIW 9800 died, got an RMA, replace the Artic Silencer with the
original fan. Even put some Artic silver 5 on it. Just recieved
another AIW.
