Converting Wordpad document

I have documents in wordpad from a friend and I am using word 2002, I believe
his are saved using word 9.0. When I open them up they open in wordpad and
it is all a mess. Do I need a converter. If so, where do I get this from?

There is no essential difference between the file structure of Word 9 (Word
2000) and Word 2002. The latter should open the files of the former
transparently. Files can be corrupted in e-mail transit so they are best
sent in a zipped format. Never open files directly from e-mail messages.
Copy to the hard drive first. If your PC opens DOC files in WordPad then
your file association for DOC is wrong. See
