Converting non-unicode data files to unicode data files

I'm trying to upgrade a client from office 2000 to 2003. I am running XP Pro
SP1 Multilingual version. When I finish the upgrade the title and
attachments on his archived mail, shows wingdings. He is using an old pst
file for his archive, That is non-unicode. This only happens to his mail
that is sent in japanese, all of his english mail is fine. I've tried to
convert, to upgrade, a clean install. Is there anything else i can do.

If you create a Unicode PST and copy a faulty message to that PST, do the
characters change?
