convert word 95 document to word 2000 document

Recently upgraded from Word 95 to Word 2000. I would like to password
protect a document created in word 95 that came across in the conversion. It
was not protected before the conversion. Word 2000 won't let me. 'Help'
does not seem to help me.
 
Save the document as a Word document (Word 95 used RTF format) and then you
should be able to add a password.
