Convert .ics to .vcs for Outlook?

A user has rec'd an .ics attachment and can't view it in Outlook 2000 (SP3).
Is there a way to convert this to a .vcs or other type of file so we can
import it? Thanks, Katherine

Try simply changing the extension and see if it works. An ICS seems to just
contain some more data fields than a VCS from a quick scan of an item saved
in both formats.

It might be better to ask the sender to resend as a .vcs file or drop the reminder before sending as an .ics. There is a known incompatiblity between Outlook 2000 and later versions related to reminders on meeting requests sent in iCalendar (aka iCal) format. To resolve this issue, do one of the following:

-- Contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the Outlook 2000 post-SP3 hotfix described in this article: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823199

-- Tell the senders to remove any reminder before sending you an iCal meeting request.

-- Tell the senders to send to you in native Outlook meeting request (RTF) format, not as iCal

My organization is converting completely to PCs over the next week. I am
currently one of the few people still working on a Mac in the office. I
currently have my calendar and to do list in iCal v1.5.5. Is there a way to
import this information into Outlook 2003 when I convert over? iCal only
exports in *.ics formats. I haven't been able to find any information
anywhere about this predicament yet. Thank you for your help!

Have you tried using the File | Import and Export wizard to import such an export file into Outlook?

I have not yet as I haven't been converted to a PC yet. Is Outlook 2003
already set up to receive such file types? If so, I should be able to import
without a problem. Thanks!

Outlook has, for several versions, been able to perform imports of a bulk iCalendar file through the wizard.
