In the convert dialouge after I enter (convert
C: /fs:ntfs) it asks for a volume label..
I am not sure just what that is????
help. what characters do in enter?
thanks for the help!

Look in My Computer, it's next to the drive letter if you have one.

Don't have a volume label it will look
Local Disk (C:)

Have a volume label (say XP) it will look
XP (C:)

If 1 just press enter when it asks for label.

.
IN MY DISK MANAGER THE DISK IS LISTED AS:
"DISK 0
BASIC
27.95GB" AFTER THE DISK ICON, IT CALLS
OUT: "DISK1PART01" I HAVE ENTERED BOTH OF THOSE AND IT
STILL SAYS INCORRECT VOLUME LABEL.

I said look in My Computer not Disk Management. Has the drive been formatted?

The hard disk is formatted it is loaded with my business
files that I am trying to move to my new computer and
hard drive.
in My Computer the ID on the disk is "DISK1PART01 (C:),
i tried that and it said nothing just went to the next
line with the fashing curser. Then, it would not let me
do anything..
i even tried putting the disk1part01 as the tag on the
convert line and it came back with invalid parameter _C.

You can find it, if in the Command prompt you first use
VOL C:
when it will be on the first line.

Also note the Volume Serial number on the second line, and before doing
the conversion, read up at www.aumha.org/win5/a/ntfscvt.htm
